Service Overview
From full refinishing to targeted repairs, we bring worn and damaged hardwood floors back to their original beauty.

The Process
Our refinishing process strips worn floors down to bare wood and builds them back up with fresh stain and finish. The result is a floor that looks and feels brand new at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
We inspect your floors to evaluate wear depth, board condition, and finish type. This determines the grit sequence and prep work needed for a clean sand.
We sand the entire floor using professional drum and edging sanders, progressing through multiple grits to achieve a smooth, even surface ready for stain.
We apply your selected stain color evenly across the floor. If you prefer a natural look, we skip stain and move directly to the finish coats.
We apply 2-3 coats of polyurethane or hardwax oil, sanding lightly between coats for a smooth, durable finish that protects the wood for years.
After the final coat cures, we perform a detailed walkthrough to ensure even coverage, consistent color, and a consistent finish throughout.
If your hardwood floors look tired, scratched, or faded, refinishing is the fastest way to bring them back to life. Alpine Hardwood provides full-service hardwood floor refinishing for homeowners and businesses throughout the Cokato area and the Twin Cities west metro.
Refinishing is a multi-step process that strips the floor down to bare wood and builds it back up with fresh stain and finish. Each project includes:
Most hardwood floors should be refinished every 7-10 years depending on traffic and wear. Signs it's time include visible scratches through the finish, gray or discolored wood, water stains, dull or worn traffic paths, and finish that's peeling or flaking. Not sure if your floors need refinishing? Schedule a hardwood floor assessment and we'll give you an honest recommendation.
Oil-based polyurethane adds a warm amber tone that deepens over time, dries slower (24 hours between coats), and produces a rich, traditional look. Water-based polyurethane dries clear, cures faster (2-4 hours between coats), and has lower odor. Both are extremely durable - the choice comes down to the look you prefer and how quickly you need the space back.
If your floors are only lightly worn and the finish is still intact, a buff and coat may be all you need - at a fraction of the cost. If the floors have deep wear or haven't been touched in decades, a full resand and refinish is the right approach. And if you want a completely different stain color, we offer custom stain color matching as part of the process.
Most residential refinishing projects take 3-5 days from first sand to final coat. The floor is ready for furniture after 24-48 hours of final cure time, and fully cured in about 2 weeks. We'll provide a specific timeline based on your project during the estimate.
