Hardwood Floor Installation Services

Alpine Hardwood provides professional hardwood floor installation for homeowners throughout the Cokato area and the Twin Cities west metro. From subfloor prep to final finish, we handle the details so your new floors look and perform their best.

What's Included

  • Old flooring removal - carpet, vinyl, tile, or laminate removed and disposed of
  • Subfloor preparation - leveling, moisture testing, and repairs as needed
  • Material acclimation - hardwood stored in your home to adjust to indoor conditions before installation
  • Professional installation - nail-down, glue-down, or floating method based on your product and subfloor
  • Staining and finishing - for unfinished hardwood, we sand smooth, apply stain, and seal with multiple coats

Installation Methods

Nail-down: The traditional method for solid hardwood over plywood subfloors. Each board is blind-nailed through the tongue at an angle using a pneumatic flooring nailer. This creates a secure, permanent bond.

Glue-down: Used for engineered hardwood over concrete subfloors. A moisture-barrier adhesive bonds the hardwood directly to the concrete, creating a stable, quiet floor.

Floating: Some engineered hardwood products feature click-lock systems that float over an underlayment without fasteners or adhesive. This method is fast and works well over radiant heat systems.

Solid vs. Engineered Hardwood

Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood and can be refinished multiple times. Engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer over a plywood core, offering greater stability in moisture-prone areas. We'll help you choose the right product based on your subfloor type, location, and budget. Start with a consultation if you're not sure which direction to go.

The Importance of Acclimation

Wood expands and contracts with changes in humidity. Installing hardwood before it has acclimated to your home's conditions can lead to gaps, buckling, or cupping after installation. We deliver material early and monitor conditions to ensure proper acclimation before we begin.
