The Process

Professional polishing restores a smooth, clean shine to hardwood floors that have dulled from everyday traffic. It fills micro-scratches and enhances the natural beauty of your wood grain.

Hardwood Floor Polishing Services

Over time, even well-maintained hardwood floors lose their shine. Foot traffic, cleaning products, and daily wear gradually dull the surface. Professional polishing restores that clean, smooth luster without the time or cost of refinishing. Alpine Hardwood provides hardwood floor polishing throughout Cokato, MN and the Twin Cities west metro.

What Polishing Does

  • Restores shine - brings back the smooth, clean luster that makes your floors look freshly finished
  • Fills micro-scratches - the polish fills in tiny surface abrasions that scatter light and make floors look dull
  • Adds a protective layer - creates a thin barrier that helps protect the finish from further wear
  • Enhances grain - brings out the natural beauty and depth of your wood's grain pattern

Polishing vs. Buff & Coat vs. Refinishing

Polishing is a surface-level maintenance service. It doesn't remove finish, doesn't involve sanding, and doesn't change the color of your floors. It's best for floors that look dull but don't have significant wear or damage.

Buff and coat is more involved - it lightly abrades the existing finish and applies a new coat of polyurethane. It's the right choice when the finish is wearing thin but hasn't failed completely.

Refinishing is a full sand-to-bare-wood process for floors with deep wear, scratches through the finish, or when you want to change the stain color.

When to Polish

Polishing is ideal as a between-refinish maintenance step. If your floors were refinished or recoated within the last few years and just need a freshening up, polishing is the most efficient option. It's also a great service before hosting events, listing your home for sale, or simply restoring the clean look you love.

Products We Use

We use professional-grade hardwood floor polishes that are compatible with polyurethane and hardwax oil finishes. We avoid wax-based products on polyurethane-finished floors, as wax can prevent proper adhesion of future finish coats.
